Mental Health/Personal Counseling

I don’t like to say things like, “I’ve seen your case a hundred times before” because I feel that trivializes the meaning of our subjective experience. Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, ADHD, and Bipolar Disorder do not present exactly the same way in every person. Also, who can say for a fact that his/her experience is exactly the same as someone else’s?

That said, I have a lot of experience working with clients coping with a variety of mental health and life challenges including:

  • Anxiety and panic
  • Depression
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Recovery from rape/sexual assault and domestic violence

Populations I typically treat include:

  • Teens and “tweens”
  • Veterans
  • Trauma survivors
  • College students
  • Young to middle-aged adults

I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches and techniques. I recently completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR.) Sometimes, I will use projective/creative exercises with clients who have trouble articulating their feelings. For clients who like a lot of information and homework, I use worksheets, information sheets, and self-help books to supplement our work together.

Career Counseling

During my counseling training, I completed several internships and specialized coursework in career planning. I have worked with a wide range of job seekers and have helped hundreds of people with career challenges. My approach to career counseling is to empower the client to find satisfying employment, so I take the approach of teaching skills rather than focusing on doing things for you.

I cannot bill insurance companies for career counseling or coaching services.

Career counseling services include:

  • Assessment (Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Self Directed Search, etc.)
  • Resume and cover letter support–Revision and critique services available
  • Job search support
  • Interview preparation
