Missed Appointments, Late Arrivals, Weather Closures and More

Please call 908.913.0581 for all schedule changes

Due to the fact that I am normally in appointments or en route to appointments, if you need to reschedule an appointment or notify me that you are going to be late, it is very important that you call the service at (908) 913-0581 as soon as possible. Email, text messages, and calls to my cell are not considered notification for this purpose.

Intakes for New Clients Only Available Mon-Thurs Between Noon and 4 p.m.

Saturdays and evenings are particularly busy times, and the majority of those appointments are currently filled by standing appointments. If you are a new client and you need a weekend or evening appointment as your normal time, I can probably accommodate the request, but not for intakes or initial consultations.

15-Minute Rule

On most days, including Saturdays, I have appointments scheduled back-to-back. If someone is over 15 minutes late, I cannot necessarily extend the session which leaves that person with a very short session. In fairness to all, please understand that if you are over 15 minutes late, even if you have called, I may not be able to see you. I would not reasonably expect a client to wait for me for over 15 minutes if I were running that late either. Unpredictable things happen, and I understand that and want to be as sensitive to that as I can. I also need to honor my time commitments to all clients scheduled in a day as best I can. My recommendation is, if you find yourself running over 10-15 minutes late, call 908-913-0581 and let them know that you need to reschedule. Normally, cancellations with less than a full day’s notice are subject to a $25 cancellation fee, but this is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Weather Closures

If it is determined that travel conditions are unsafe, or if the weather and building conditions are not safe/comfortable enough for sessions (e.g. broken air conditioning on a 90 degree day, gas leaks, etc.) appointments are subject to rescheduling. All clients affected will be called/texted/emailed, depending on contact preference, and a notification will be posted on this website as well as the Facebook page.

Missed Appointments

Everyone forgets appointments or needs to reschedule sometimes. The official policy regarding cancellations is that 24 hours are required. However, if you call as soon as you know (even if it’s the morning of your appointment) that is appreciated. In general, the $25 missed appointment fee will only be assessed if it’s a recurring issue. Please do be mindful that if you miss your scheduled appointment, you will most likely have to wait until the following week for a new appointment.

Eligibility for Sliding Scale Services

Providing accessible services is important to me, and I make every effort to ensure that clients are able to access services without cost being an obstacle. In an effort to serve clients, and students completing practicum hours, it’s necessary to have guidelines in place to ensure that everyone’s needs are met, and that we can keep the office open. If you do not have insurance, or are on a Medicaid/Medicare plan, or have a high deductible plan and are unable to access mental health services through those channels, we may be able to help you. Please keep the following in mind:

  • Sliding scale services cannot be provided for free. There is a minimum charge of $50/session. A valid credit card must be on file with our office at all times and a $25 missed appointment fee will be assessed for all missed sessions. If you do not have a valid credit card, you will need to provide a $25 deposit to be refunded to you upon termination or applied to your last session as a credit.
  • We cannot provide sliding scale services to any person under 18 years of age due to program restrictions for practicum students.
  • Practicum students are not licensed and therefore cannot complete paperwork or assessments for the determination of disability accommodations for college/school, insurance claims (including auto), disability/social security claims, or court documents. The majority of this type of documentation often requires at least a co-signature of a PhD prepared practitioner or an MD. The highest level of academic preparation for any professional on-site is a Masters plus a license.
  • If you have been hospitalized (including partial hospitalization in an IOP) within the past 4 years due to a mental health issue or have suicidal ideation, you are not eligible for sliding scale services at this time.

Please understand that these requirements are in place primarily to ensure everyone’s health and safety. If you need a referral to other services in the area that might meet your needs, feel free to ask either by sending an email or calling.
